Air handler on the loose

Hi. I have a Trane XL1800 heat pump with a TWE065E13FBO air handler; Trane Baystat 038A thermostat. Recently, the fan on the air handler seems to run all night. When I get up in the AM, it is still running. I can turn the entire cooling unit off, but the fan continues. If I turn the fan switch on, then off again, the fan goes off. Is this a relay problem? I have had it to do this months ago, but havenít noticed again until recently. The handler works fine during the rest of the day. Thanks for any input.

If it were me the first thing I would think of sitting in my lazyboy and where Id start....Hmmm Im going to have to get in that darn attic, kill the power, open the control panel and see if there is anything obviously looks burned on the board. If not blow the blanket of dust off the board with canned air, close everything up and pull out the original thermostat I have in storage that I know is working and switch out the thermostat to see if all is well.

If its a programmable thermostat. Make sure the fan isn't set to on in the programming.

Thanks; don't think it is the thermostat as it seems to work just fine with ups & downs all day---only sticks in the cool night time.

A sticking relay would usually not care if it were night or day or what ambient temperature is. This could be a good place to begin your trouble shooting though.

Check the thermostat programming if its a programmable one. It cost you nothing to check it.
