Air handler condensate-----> HELP

For years and years I've battled the condensate line coming from the air handler in my attic.

There is only room for about 1" of fall over 18' for the condensate line. This year I was trying to devise a way to raise the air handler further off the ceiling joists so I could get more fall. But it doesn't look like I can budge the air handler without a hoist or pulleys and there is only 20" inches between the top of the air handler and the attic roof.

I've heard about people using condensate pumps to help with gravity fed condensate discharge issues.

How effective are these? Should I try to find a way to get the PVC gravity discharge to work or will a condensate pump take care of this?

Thank you.

Ive been installing hvac equiptment for 4 years now and have seen condesate pumps outlast the equiptment itself. If you do decide to get one go with a Little Giant Condesate Pump. They are avaliable in shallow or deep resvoirs depending on the application. Althought you'll have to buy the 1/2 inch clear tubing for the pump discharge. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Does anyone have a good resource to learn more about condensate pumps. I've looked into the Little Giant models but I am having a tough time deciding which one to buy.

I can't even figure out what is meant by "head pressure." :huh:

Hero40sn9s, do you happen to know if the clear tubing will weaken, over time, in at attic that goes from -20 Fahrenheit to 120 Fahrenheit each year? The clear tubing that I'm thinking of would probably collapse upon itself on a 100 degree day. My attic is unconditioned air.

Since I have a condensate trap in my current gravity pvc drain line, will i still need a condensate trap when using a pump?
