There is no freon inside the home in the air. There is Refrigerant used in many products for cooling & with some that also heat the air, by using the molecules in the outside air.

Is the unit Central air or a window unit?

If it's a window unit probably Oz's, If it's a Central unit it's probably #s and Oz's.

Check name tag as mentioned

Freon is the brand name of the refrigerant. But to answer your question, anywhere below 5 lbs.

As stated it depends on the unit. Mine's a 2 year old high SEER 2 ton and it holds over 11 lbs of refrigerant.
