Is there a way to use and air conditioner to extract heat from a tank of water, say 50 gallons. The water tank will be approx. 80 - 90 F and my thought was to retrofit and AC unit to cool the tank to around 65 - 75 F. Is this possible OR just an impossible dream. Any help would be most appreciated.
a ground source heat pump setup will chill the water but what to do with all that heat at the other end.how long to bring the water down is a tonnage situation
I'm not really sure what you're trying to do, but they sell aquarium chillers that would cool your water down. They are usually used on large reef tanks where the high intensity lighting heats up the water.
Yes, you are basically talking about a chiller. You would need to cycle the water through a heat exchanger. I would be an expensive setup. Not sure what you are trying to do with the chilled water?
They make smaller plate heat exchangers that will work for what you want. At 15 degree difference thats only around 6,000 BTUs that your looking to remove, so it won 't take a 1.5 ton condenser long to cool the 50 gallons down to the temp you want. About 20 minutes.
