Air Conditioner Woes

We had our furnace/air conditioner installed brand new in 2004 with it being maintained every year.

This year, the air conditioner is having a problem that I noticed when I first tried starting the unit.

The compressor seems to not engage. I've taken a video that will demonstrate what is going on.

Listen for the sounds at 8 seconds, 27 seconds and 53 seconds. Is this something serious, or something that I could fix? We're trying to be smart about this.

Air Conditioner Woes

It is something SERIOUS. your compressor is not running and having a very hard time trying to start and is cutting out on it's internal overload. STOP using it that way or the compressor may burn out. May need a new dual capacitor and it also sounds like there may be damage inside it. I would get it checked by a Pro as the freon level needs checking when he gets it running. Also the outdoor coil needs cleaning and indoor coil needs checking etc.

We haven't ran it. We turned it off right when it happened, It ran for no longer than 5 minutes. I will check the capacitor to see if thats the fix. The freon levels were recharged last year.
