Air conditioner
 
i am a new home owner and it was suggested to me that i set my cooling thermostat at 77 degrees, however when i come home from work the temp outside is 97 and my therostat says 84. i thought when set on auto it will keep the house at 77....i have replaced filters and still can't get it cool....the house is only 5 years new....what should i do

Have it checked and the condenser coil cleaned to make sure it is working properly and is fully charge. If all is well then it just may not be sized to keep up with a 97 deg (some areas that don't get as hot often size units appropriately so they are not too oversized) anyway moisture in the air can also a factor on the load on the unit. Make sure if you have a fireplace to close the dampener to prevent any air from coming in on those real hot days. Anyway, the 84 degrees probably still feels a lot better then the 97 degrees
