Adjusting Heat Pump Defrost Cycle

Hello - new member here!

I have a York Latitude Heat Pump - installed new in August, 2007.

My question is: can I adjust the unit to have it go into defrost mode less often as it does?

Lately, it seems to be going into defrost mode every 45 to 60 minutes regardless of outside weather conditions. The defrost cycles last only 5 to 7 minutes which tells me that there really isn't much ice on the coils.

The outside unit is always clean (free of debris) and I do change the inside filter regularly. The unit operates fine when it's in normal mode.

Adjusting Heat Pump Defrost Cycle

It can be changed to 90 minutes.

But, it will then stay in defrost longer.

7 to 9 minutes is a fairly long defrost time.
