adding a gas backup heat to a heat pump

I just lucked up and got a new furnance 40K btu and 3 ton fan but no coil yet. I have a 3 ton outside unit with a 2 ton inside unit now. (long story don't ask) I'm trying to figure out the best way to install the new unit.

Right now I have 1 air handler in the attic, I was thinking about putting the gas furnace down stairs so I would have gas down and heatpump up on a diferent t-stat, works fine for winter. In the summer I would only have the 2 ton coil and fan in the attic.

I was thinking about adding a 1 ton coil to the furnace down stairs and hooking them up to the same 3 ton condenser. That would give me 3 ton inside and out, but a 2 ton fan upstairs and a 3 ton fan downstairs.

The other option I could just put the furnace in front of the old air handler, but I really wanted to control the temp downstairs more. . . and I would only have a 2 ton coil with a 3 ton fan. I could just change the piston to a 3 ton piston.

I know this sounds confusing, but I am just looking for ideas to run two floors with one condenser.

Won't be able to slow the furnace blower enough for 1 ton.
