AC won't shut off
First time posting. I have Tempstar unit that won't shut off; continuosly cooling. I changed the thermostat (Since it was old) to a Honeywell programmable, but the problem persisted. I then changed the contactor on the outside compressor, but that didn't work either. I believe that the problem may be in the wiring of the thermostat, but I have triple chekced it; according the labels that were on the wires prior to moving in.
I'd appreciate any troubleshooting tips.

You did some thermostat work such as installed a new one or moved the old one and then this problem started?

It's easier for us to help you if you say something. I can tell you how to troubleshoot but I need to know where to begin. You've given me suspicion that you've done something to the stat wiring. Is this the case?
With the stat fan in the off position, is the inside blowing? Outside coming on as well? What exactly is happening? What's happening in heating mode, anything?

My apologies for not clarifying. The problem began with the old thermostat. It needed to be replaced regardless, so I started the process of elimination there. But unfortunatly the problem continued and the air still doesn't shut off.

Also to add: I am unable to use any functions in the new thermostat.

So while the stat is set in the OFF position the system is running? Do you have a gas furnace or an electric air handler? I ask because a furnace will have a control board with low voltage terminals, like at the stat. You didn't work there as well, did you?
I need to know what is happening on each call, cooling, heating, fan ON and Fan OFF.

Okay, we'll start from scratch as soon as I know whether you have a gas furnace or an electric air handler.

AC won't shut off
Okay, did you do anything to the wiring at the air handler or only at the stat?

What I think you might have done is put the condenser "red' wire onto the R terminal, always feeding it power.

Is it possible to take pictures of all of the wiring and post them? At the air handler and at the stat.

I will check the installation of the thermostat (particularly the red wire) again and post in a little bit. Thanks for the suggestion.

AC won't shut off
Its probably going to end up being the thermostat wire. After a number of years of being strapped to the vapor line of a heat pump, it starts melting..
