AC Noob question.

Hello and thank you for reading my post. I currently live in a three story home (the third story is a loft over the second floors great room). The home was built two years ago with a top of the line AC that is superb for cooling most of the living space of our home.

I am currently staying in the loft over the great room and on hot days the loft is substantially hotter than the rest of the house. The loft is my office and bedroom and during hot days it is near unbearable to work and sleep up there. There is an HVAC inlet in the loft but there are no air registers in the loft. I have a very, very limited budget and I need to find a reasonable solution to get air condition air pumped into the loft.

One Idea we have is to attache a vent to an unused register in a closet run it through the attic and into the loft but we didn't know if this was the most economical way to do this.

If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. It's going to be a hot summer and fixing this problem is becoming something of an urgent situation.

I can provide more info and pics if anyone out there could use them.

Thank you greatly for you time and I appreciate your consideration.

P.S. the other home occupants are not to into the idea of changing the look of the homes interior, and anykind of major renovation is out of the question.

Either a portable a/c or a mini split. I don't think that trying to use your existing system for the rest of the home is going to suffice without multiple supplies and may hurt the conditioning of the rest of the home. If getting a portable ac then get one with intake and exhaust hoses.

You would need a large supply duct and a large return to cool the loft.
When posting in certain forums, knowing your location will help others give better feedback/advice/solutions to your questions.

attach a vent to an unused register in a closet.? is it ducted or just in the wall.cheapest is to pull some return air out of the loft and throw that load onto the entire house systems return there an attic over the loft that is vented with a fan end to end...if not that would be a first thing to solve cooling the attic out even with 85F outside air will take a load off the loft ceiling. you guys a family situation or renting from others up there?NOTE on that return air fix the house stat cycles on the return air setting being always located near a return grill...adding your heat will cost more to run the ac when +80F air is mixed with 72F stat setting.ductless spilt is dedicated to the loft space's the $$$$
