AC/Heater Replacement Cost, Reasonable?

Can't tell you what's a fair price in tour part of the world. My sister just paid$8500 for a comperable system. Will say a 16-25 filter is not big enough.

If your installer can't size a filter correctly it's probably best to find another.

A lot cheaper then I would be.

A 16X25X1 filter is a bit small for 4 tons. puts you at 577 FPM velocity, which is high for an air filter. that 16X25 size also prevents you from using even a low MERV pleated air filter, if you want good air flow and filtering.

I appreciate your attention 'beenthere'
I will ask the installer why he is using a smaller opening.

My current opening is 20x25X1

So the smaller one will make a difference?

Big difference. The smaller filter will not be able to stop as much dust as the pull on it will be that much greater.

There is a 100 sq in difference in filtering area between those filter sizes.
