AC Fan Will Not Spin

Guys looking for some assistances with my AC unit. I hear the compressor come on but the fan will not turn. Air is blowing throughout the house but just not getting cooled. The fan will spin freely so I know its not ceased up or anything.

Had the same exact issue 2.5 years ago. Can't remember exactly what they did to fix it but I think they replaced a capacitor. I would like to try to fix this myself; i'm no where near a AC tech or claim to be. Trying to save some cash. Unfortunately there is no name brand on the outside unit; moved in about 5 years ago and the people before me replaced it with some cheap unit. Been working pretty well over the years....

Thanks.

AC Fan Will Not Spin

okay so i've been watching some youtube video's and it seems pretty simple. Not seeing exactly how to discharge the new capacitor I buy and what i need to do with the bad one that is connected??

So before anything I'll kill power to the unit. Remove the cover where the capacitor is located. At this point can I just disconnect the failed capacitor or do I need to ground it out or something?? If so how would I go about that???

With new capacitor I purchase I know it seems simple but I want to make sure i'm doing this right; how do I go about discharging it...some people are saying a screwdiver???

Thanks a lot for the help man.

AC Fan Will Not Spin

First turn off, screwdriver across the terminals. It will discharge. That's it

Make a sketch of where wires go before removing cap. From your description, you need a dual function: one part starts compressor, other starts fan. The can should look distorted upon inspection. They come oval or round. Replace with same type for fit.
