AC condenser install quote question

I reached another one of the few things that I don't do myself and I'm being skeptical on the labor price I got from the HVAC guy I knew.

The furnace and evap coil are already installed and fine just need cleaning. The 4ton condenser is 895 + 175 for the line set. The remaining 1300 is labor for installing condenser. Is this a decent price?

Home is 1700 sq ft, is 4ton too much?

the price is good if you think he is getting rich charging that you would be wrong all things are regional and how bussniess savy your contractor happens to be . The sad reality is there is a Huge misconception that the majority of contractors are out there ripping people off , the reality is that more contractors are out there undercharging because they realy havent figured out there real overhead /billable hours per day and so on , these guys are out of bussniess inside 5 years 95%. The real ripp off that does happen is poor workmenship (where your concern should be )
ps unless the condenser is being replaced with one of equel eff. you realy do have to replace that evap coil. my hourly 350.00 and probubly take home less then you

Seems extremely high to me. The hard work is already done. If you are a DYI run everything and have A/C guy connect and charge.
I may go home hungry, but not tired and hungry.

Compared to my area, the price of the condensor & line set sounds reasonable, but the labor sounds a little steep. $750-900 labor in our market (according to my info). But yours is different.

If you have vaulted ceilings or 'odd' things in your 1700 sq ft house, a 4 ton might be inline. Maybe a little much. I was thinking more of 3.5 ton. A 1700 sq, normal 8 ft ceilings, no special circumstances, I would think a 3 ton would be closer to the size needed. Try Google=air conditioner ton

Do you know what the size of the A-coil (evaporator) is ?? The coil & condensor need to match.
