ac blower

My blower motor comes on then goes back off running no more than a few seconds. The blower spins freely by hand so I think the blower motor is good. Could it be a starter soelnoid of something like that. I changed the batteries in the thermosat and checked for loose wires finding nothing loose. The outside unit runs and responds as it should but the inside blower will not stay running either in "auto" or "on" mode. It's actually my mother's ac and she is 90, I put in a call to a a/c service company but maybe they don't work weekends and I would like to get it fixed before it gets too hot.

When it blower quits feel the motor housing and see if it is hot. Sounds like the overload on the motor is tripping due to some problem. If that is the case you can take it to a motor rebuild shop or replace it.

Thanks, I will check that today but I believe that this also happens even when the unit has been off and the motor is cold.

Thanks, Geo60

Thats the point. It may be a start switch / winding or capacitor problem causing the motor to overheat. It will do this very rapid.
