275 Gallon Fuel Oil Tank Tampering

I have an above ground tank with a valve on the bottom to better remove water accumulation. But this tank is subject to vandalism if someone came along with a pipe wrench and remove the pipe cap on the valve. Is there a solution to prevent tampering?

Beenthere,
I was thinking the same thing. maybe a lock can be put on the valve but I think there is enough room to turn the whole assembly right out of the threaded hole in the tank. its dark now, I'll check it again tomorrow. If thats the case I may have to brick it in and then install the locking device. the tank is on a cement pad and it would be easy enough to mortor some bricks in. Anyone trying to tamper with this setup would have to make some noise doing it.

Here are pictures of the valve that needs some type of security to prevent vandals from tampering with it. If I brick this area around the valve, leaving the front open; and then install a locking device; i think this will work. I realize anything can be tamper with; but the idea here is to make it difficult to tampering without making some noise which will attract myself or a neighbor.

Thanks,
I'll check out the locking wing valve and what my local oil distributor has and then pick the one that appears most secure.

Ben's Plumbing,
I tried Ace hardware on the net and my search came up empty and I also tried Lowe's. Do you know of a website where I can take a look at the locking wing stop or locking wing valve? The only thing I found on the net was a lock for the fill pipe.

rjordan -

That must be a newer (less than 15 years old) tank since every home in Levittown, PA came with a buried tank and a willow tree. The oil distributors ruled because the guaranteed the tanks as long as you bought oil from them. My wife grew up there and had to deal with the buried problems when her parents passed on and they had not bought enough oil recently.

You may have to go through an oil distributor for the security valve that fits the tank you have. You may pay more, but you will have peace of mind regarding the oil.
