2010 Rheem RHLL-HM382IJA air handler fan not working

I woke about a month 5 weeks ago to the sound of the air handler fan trying to start. The outside fan was working, turning on fan only also did not work but I could turn the air handler fan manually. I let it thaw out & installed a new Filtrete 1500 filter and within hours the unit was working again. It happened again several days ago. I woke to the sound of the air handler fan trying to start but this time after thawing out & installing new filter it's still not working several days later.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

First, if your going to use those 1500 filters. change them every 3 weeks.

Check to see if you have voltage(208/230-240) to the motor.

that unit has a X-13 constant torque motor which is tricky for some Pros and hard for a DIYer to troubleshoot. Try find a service manual (check the install or owners manual) for it online or get it from Rheem. It uses a low voltage signal from the circuit board to energize the motor. Has no capacitor and is not a PSC motor. You need a flow chart and some electrical experience and test meter and to follow the chart steps to check it, not easy to do over the net.

Thanks!
Change filter every 3 wks...Got it!

I called original installers, they quoted a service call at $90 - $275 for labor depending on the location of unit (access is easy...in the garage) & the problem. But parts are still under warranty.

No capacitor...Confirmed. Motor is good but "module" attached to it needs to be replaced.
REPAIR ESTIMATE TOTAL = $225 (Parts: Under warranty + Labor: $225)

UPDATE:
Actually, got this done for $180 or 2 hours labor. The service rep says this part goes bad all the time and don't last but maybe 3-4 years. Says they get a lot of calls for this especially during thunder & lightning storms. Don't recall the weather when this happened but they warranty the part for 10 years, you'd think they'd expect it to last close to that. Oh well, A/C fixed just in time to stop using it. ;p
