2 stage heating and thermostat settings

I have the Honeywell RTH7600D Thermostat

http://yourhome.honeywell.com/home/P...e/RTH7600D.htm

and this furnance

http://www.aireflo-hvac.com/products/af92gf.asp (upflow 125,000 btu version)

it's supose to be multistage heating (not really sure how, I've never seen it do more then one stage) I think the model number is AF92MPE125U5, I will have to look again to be sure... but I thought I read somewhere it was multi stage

but my thermostat during the extended setup asks if you have a single or multi stage furnance...

what exactly does the termostat use this information to do? and does this setting make a difference in how much the furnance runs?

The only wires I have connected on the thermostat are R (jumpered to RC) W, Y, G, and C (for the 24v power supply to work)

the system also has an AC unit connected to it..

but setting number 0170 has select system type... #1 is heat/cool gas, oil or electric heating with central air (when i hooked this up this was what it was original on and our gas bill was much lower)... changed it to multi stage with coolign single stage, but realized W2 wasnt there! but the gas bill went WAY up with this setting...

do I have this configed wrong? I think I do, with no W2 wire, I think it should be on single stage... and I dont even think this furance is multi stage even though the manual I have for it says it is, I dont think I have a w2 terminal on the control board in it

Looks like single stage furnace, with a multispeed blower motor(PSC)

yeah, thats what I thought since it only has a W1 and not a W2... they must of gave me the wrong manual for the furnance... now to figure out why changeing the settings on the termostat makes it run twice as much......

Multistage. is usually a heat pump.
You may have brought on your A/C with the heat.

figured it out! The heating cycle rate went from 2 up to 6! so every 5 minutes it would go on then off for 5 then on for 5...etc... instead of what it normally did only twice an hour for 10 minutes at a time
