1928 octagon furnace

I own a two family home and my octagon furnace needs to be re-ignited. Does anyone know how I can do this? Do I simply take a lighter up to it and light it?

Make, model?
Is Oxtagon the shape of it or the make?

Good old Octopus furnace. I would have it inspected by a HVAC co. before relighting. Also make sure you have CO detectors in the home.

We got rid of the one in our house shortly after we moved in, due to it was beyond its timespan, and killed on gas.

I left ours running on pilot all of the time, due to they are a pain to relight.

Wow..
That's must be well over 50 years old. Most of the ones I ran into died years ago.
They usually have a manual baso safety switch that needs to be engaged just to get the furnace to work.
You'd better send us a picture of the furnace controls with the access cover open.
And yes, an exchanger inspection and CO test is needed!

don't waste any time with that bomb ..get estimates to replace it...,,because the truth is it should have been replaced yrs ago..ben sr

That Octopus is extremely inefficient and the heat exchanger is gasketed and likely leaking combustion fumes into supply air ...extremely dangerous!! Carbon Monoxide Poisoning very real liklihood. Do you get headaches during heating season? Replace with high efficiency condensing gas furnace ..will save you 60%!! PLEASE get rid of it!!

Wow,,, you must be very wealthy to run that thing.
After you have a real manual "J" and a manual "D" done, the new furnace wil pay for itself (whatever it costs) in a very few years.
