15 x 24 filter

Hi,

I have been having problems finding the right size filter for my furance. The filter size i need is 15x24x1. I have been thinking about fixing things so that the furance takes a more standard size like 16x25x1.

Problem is that if I do that I guess I need to replace the cold air return boot (I think that is what it is called, I am talking about the 90 degree round elbow).

Is it worth fixing things so that the filter size is a popular/standard size?

Are you sure this is the correct size to begin with? Most returns are undersized. What is the model of your furnace? So that sizing filter can be properly done.

Seems like that what I currently have is undersized. As the book calls for a 15-1/2 x 25 filter for the 075-3

To be more clear, the size of the duct going into the furnance is 15x24 and on the other side of the 90 degree elbow the cold return coming in is 10x24.

Lots of options.

There are filters that are made to cut to size.

Most regular filters with a good enough screen will stay intact with one inch trimmed off them, especially if rhe trimmed edge is installed facing down. Some of my clients have secured a wire or two for extra support across the filter rack opening if they are worried about the trimmed filter bending..

Filter producers will often custom produce filters to the exact size you ask for at close to retail pricing. (Check their minimums and you'll also have to pay them up front.)

Or change the return air grill to a larger standard size like 20x25.

if you have a single return grill from the space install it in behind the grill work..or just slide it in at an angle to take that 1" more
