12 year old HVAC unit, fix or replace

I have the official estimate now. $6100 ($4450 final cost after $1500 tax cred it and $150 man rebate) Equipment is Carrier Comfort 15HP Puron. Variable speed inside unit gives 16 SEER for the system. Using existing thermostat and all lines, replace plenum.

Also quoted higher and lower eff models but this one seemed to be best value for price.

Thoiughts on pricing?

I think to qualify for the rebate the HP has to be 16 SEER rated with out the aid of a vs ECM motor.

Any body else get the issue of the NEWS I got? That's where I got that info.

Might be cheaper to put Hubby in a hotel for a couple of nights and get more quotes than rush into a decision.

No, I don't get it.

But I do have the Tax certs for Yorks units that qualify.
And basically, they all NEED the ECM VS blower to get the tax credit.

Didn't see anything about it on any tax credit website.

The blower is part of the air handler. And without some sort of air handler. An air to air wouldn't have a SEER rating without it either.

Just my opinion,, Thats alot of cow to buy .. I just don't see it.. I replaced my Dad's with the least expensive mod.. He also lives in FL. & his units end up rusting within a few yrs because of the salt in the air. About all he can get is 8-10 yrs.. No matter the cost of the unit... Of course, he's only about 3 miles from the water.....

You'll probably replace the unit b-4 you can recope the cost
