what state are you in does it die out in the winter or extreme heat
when you break the vine does it have a strong odor

It's growing like crazy all over our property, up trees, bushes, you name it. I do not recall seeing it in the previous years, at least not anywhere near this much. We did have a lot of rain this year.

I have not noticed the odor, I'll check later today

I didn't realize kudzu flourished that far north! It's a pain in the if that's what it is.

Kudzu roots are obnoxious and don't die easily. The vine seeds like mad. Out of control, it kills most everything under it.

If it's kudzu, you could try removing it by the root to get rid of it or keep it cut back to the root so it won't spread and seed. Down here, chemicals are used, but this only seems to kill the foilage as new green vines grow up through the dead stuff. Cold can kill the roots. It doesn't get cold enough down here for that, but maybe up there winter wipes it out.
