What kind of nightmare bush is this?

Can anyone please tell me the name of this kind of bush?

In the picture I have just trimmed it. Usually it has "tentacles" and smaller curly leaves growing on the outside of it. Very lush, almost tropical looking. You can sort of see at the top in the second picture where I couldn't reach to trim it. I have to trim this thing 2 or 3 times each summer or it starts to taking over the yard. It has invasive vines that creep on top of the lawn and grows very fast.

I'd like to know how to keep it under control. I am thinking about putting some edging around it so the roots won't spread out.

Also if you keep pruning it you would never know it was a beautiful vine

I have some growing out by the pool area, planted a few years ago
I had to move it & Then a mouse/chipmunk chewed on the trunk/roots
I thought it was gone but some came up last year
And its back this year & doing better

I'm building a pergola & will have the wisteria run across the pergola

Yes, you definitely have to trim it regularly. I have a honeysuckle that is similar, but I love the flowers so I just trim a few times a year.

Very aggressive and the roots will travel underground, the come up over there - - and start a new plant. About this time of year when I mow around mine I let my blade down another notch to cut down lots of these new starter plants. I do like the smell of Wisteria blooms, and it gives my black snake a place to lie in the sun. David
