What grass can I plant?

I live in east central Georgia, about 100 miles east of Atlanta, and we are finally getting some much needed rain. I have a few bare spots in my yard that I would like to seed but what can I plant at this tme of year that will have a chance of coming up before frost?

WT,
Do you know what your lawn already has or is it just whatever is there?

Most people would probably suggest a fescue or bermuda.

It is #31 Tall Kentucky Fescue, but I am not sure there is time for it to sprout before frost.

Sure there is! This is the perfect time of year to put out grass seed- and almost anything else.

The problem with K-31 is that it is a clumping grass and is notorius for doing exactly the problem that you have. A nice 31 lawn needs to be overseeded every two or three years and some people who have more time and money than you and I together do it every year. That is why I renovated my yard several years ago with the newer turf type fescues. Not only that, but I like the finer texture to walk on. But, a nice K-31 lawn really does look NICE!
