Would you like me to send you a box of both for your yard? I think it important you learn the difference and this site is for learning. Maybe pics will do? There is actually a species of vole that like subterrain living. Most are sometimes confused and even labeled as field mice.

I still don't think this situation is result of anything but human animal error. Especially since the OP never came back? My guess is one of these was paid $10 a week to water the garden and "Whatever you do do not leave the hose laying across the lawn!"

If you could see the other side of the earth, you will need to contact your local authority soon...

My lawn and garden (retired) expert dropped by and said it looks to him like moles. I went to local box store and got the repellent he suggested and attached to garden hose.

I then sprayed about a 50 sq ft area and watered it in per instructions. I may go and get some granular to put down as a second line of defense. I'll report back.

BTW, it was not a garden hose, electrical cord or anything else left laying on the ground that caused this. I think I would know if I left something laying on the ground. Thanks for your input.

With this new information I am guessing Vole vs. Mole. Voles are more like field mice. Good old fashioned mouse traps might be in order. As your exterminator though.

I would also place some Grub Killer down to get rid of the food source. The repellant didn't work very well for me.

Good idea. I searched and found my Lowes store has a 24-hour grub killer by Bayer. Unless someone has a better suggestion, I'll get that and put it down tomorrow.
