What is this

Can anyone tell me what this is or what is for. We started digging up our rock bed make some changes to the landscaping. It was about 2 inches down. Looks like 4" PVC with a cap on it. I didnt want to dig down to try to track it. Seems to go straight down for at least 16 ".

It was buried about 2". We are on the city's sewer. Maybe septic was the original setup?

I assume it is a septic or sewer cleanout as well. It is there so if the sewer line from the house backs up or gets clogged with tree roots, it can be rooted out from that cleanout and not one under the house, in the basement or whatever.

I suppose it could be some kind of vent but not if it was buried and if that is a solid cap.

I assume the top of that fitting is threaded? I don't think I have seen a cap like that.

If you have a peripheral drain system for the home, it could be the clean out for that drain line too?

In any event it is friend not foe. Remember its location before you bury it again.
