Wetwood in elm

I am in need of some advise for my elm tree. It seems that it has wetwood (according to info found online). Main symptom being a sludge oozing from the tree that has a very foul odor. Now there are beetles- green iredescent in color that seem to be "eating" the ooze and ants seem to have infested the tree. I was able to tear a piece of bark off and found there are bore holes. I really do not want to lose this tree, we don't have many trees on our property. Plus it provides needed shade in our yard. Any advise or help would be much appreciated on how to deal with this problem. I am in Central Texas. Thanks in advance.

I'd kive a call to the county Extention Agent first.
Next would be an Licenced Arborist.

I hadn't thought about the extension office. I was thinking I might have to call an arborist, but wanted to try a less expensive solution first. I will try the extension office tomorrow. Thanks.
