well switch

After being in my new home 6 weeks I just discovered an "on/off" switch on the well in my back yard.

So far the well hasn't worked which isn't a problem as I'm not using irrigation. But I planted a lot of things and it might be nice to use that water.

What will happen if I flip the switch on? I'm a little nervous about it wondering if something will happen that I can't undo. The switch is near the faucet. Actually I'm doubting the pump even works but am curious about this switch.

thanks

What you thought was the cap for the well will slide over allowing
the ICBM buried in your backyard to launch. (Well, it could)

What is on the output side of the pump and where is the outlet? What does the well water get pumped into?

I think you should figure that out before flipping switches.

Is your home water supply from well water or from a municipal source.

sdsester,

I'm on city water.

I was just planting flowers around the well, (to disguise it) and on the side where the spigot or faucet is I noticed a covered switch plate, like on my outside outlets. I opened it and discovered the switch that looks like a light switch.

Bridge the open switch contacts with a 100W bulb. If it lights full brightness (use a multimeter to confirm full line voltage) there is a short downstream of the switch.

If it burns out the well runs on 240v.

Maybe you should check the voltage before you put the bulb in.
