Weedeater one we261

Good Afternoon, Can someone help me please? I have a new Weedeater one riding mower. I unpacked and assembled it per the instructions. It starts fine, runs fine but I cannot get the drive to engage. There is a leaver at the back to disengage and engage the drive mechanism. The leaver is not returning to the top and engaging the drive. I called the warantee line (not much use there), they recommended removing the back cover and checking to see if any packing material was lodged inside. I did find a large spring floating around inside. I double checked the manual, there are 2 large springs and 1 small. I have 1 extra spring!
No-one seems able to tell me where to look or provide a picture of where this 'extra' spring should be, all I keep being told is to take it to a repair shop. I can't do that without renting a truck. I don't have a towbar nor a truck or trailer.
Sooooooooooo all I can add is HELP!!!
