Which type of wood is best for a privacy fence?

Hello.

I am in the process of getting estimates for a privacy fence in my backyard. I have received estimates for fences built from Eastern Red Cedar, as well as Copperwood.

Can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages between these two types of lumber, and if you have a fence built from either of these two, how do you like it? Has it held up well over the years?

In some places fences over 6' high are considered "spite fences". Books on Neighbor Law can help you with this.
And if the fence is right on the property line it becomes jointly owned with your neighbor.
