trying to kill a stump that is sending up suckers

I'm trying to kill this stubborn tree stump that is sending up suckers near the base above the ground.

Do I cut every sucker and paint Roundup on every single sucker?
or shave a little off the top of the stump and paint that with roundup?

Do both because it is still alive. Drilling holes in the top of the stump allows more killer to be applied and soak in before running off or evaporating.

Grinding the stump does a great job.

In any event the area will sink as the roots rot and decompose, so some filling will need to be done in the future, but less if it is ground out.

i have heard that drilling holes in the stump and filling the holes with episom salt, then watering it will speed up the rotting of the stump.....
or just rent one of these

If you are wanting to kill the stump with glysophate, do neither. As the suckers develop leaves sponge both sides of the leaves with the roundup. It is formulated to act on plants with active growth. Sometimes good things take a little longer. If you are in a hurry rent or hire the stump grinder.

don't know how big the stump is , but if you can put a bucket over the stump or cover it up so that the stump doesn't get light , it will die, or get a bag of charcole and light it on top of the stump that will burn the stump eather way will work , may take a couple burn's but that will take care of it

Out here, pitch pines are incredibly aggressive. I've had log piles of them send out suckers. What's always worked for me (I've cleared hundreds of acres for habitat restoration in a former life) is flush cutting the tree, plunging the saw in the stump forming a giant "X" an inch deep, and spraying with roundup over the whole stump and filling the "X" never had one resprout
