Trying to Identify Grassy Weed

Hello everyone,

I'm new to posting, but I've been reading the forum for quite some time now.

I'm trying to identify a grassy weed that is starting to invade my Bermuda lawn. It's a lighter green and appears to have a small flower blooming at the top. I've attached a link to the picture. If anyone knows what it is, and more importantly, how to get rid of it, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks,
Joe

Looks like yellow nutsedge to me.
Very hard to kill.
I pull it as soon as I see it.
A lot of people say "Sedgehammer" is very good, but I have never tried it.

I believe most crabgrass killers will also kill nutsedge.

Thanks, guys! I believe you're right. I think it is nutsedge.

I've tried everything on this stuff with no success. I just ordered an Ortho product that has great reviews for killing it. We'll see!

Thanks again!

Supercubber...just out of curiosity, what product did you order?

Our lawn is slowly getting invaded as well and we have just been pulling it. Thanks in advance...

I would agree that it is yellow nut sedge. An easy way to tell if it is a sedge is to take the stem of the flowering part and roll it between your fingers and it will not roll smoothly as it has a cross-section that is a triangle. Basagran or has the active ingredient bentazon works real well for sedeges. I have used this quite well to control sedges in fields and there are versions labeled for lawns.

Thanks for the reply, but it isn't yellow nutsedge. I'm very familiar with that dastardly weed!

You just confirmed in a post above that it was yellow nutsedge and the Ortho product wiped it out completely.

I'm sorry! You're right! I had two grassy weed posts. This is clearly the nutsedge one.
