Trimmer-Small Engine Repair
I have a Ryobi 775R trimmer. I can't get it to power up enough to run my trimmer and attachments. I had tourble getting the unit to run but I finally go that solved. I replaced the spark plug, gas, cleaned the air filter, changed the carb(got one off of an old one), adjusted the idle speed, and the carb adustments.

Now the unit runs but when I pull the throttle to further speed up the unit, the unit dies. Any ideas as to what the remaining problem can be? I notice that there is some sort of "sponge" inside the gas tank. Could this possibly be clogged and not allow enough gas to be delivered to the carb? Just grasping at ideas. Very frustrating....Thanks!

That's a fuel filter in the tank. Use a metal coat hanger to hook it and pull it out.
Did you dump the old gas out and add fresh?
Try and find a place that sells Non ethenal fuel when buying gas. You will soon find you have far less trouble with all your power equipment.

I did add fresh fuel. Could the fuel filter have anything to do with issue?

Sure can, if it's pluged it would be like trying to suck on the end of a straw with your finger over it.
Another thing I've seen happen is the muffler gets sooted up causing to much back pressure.
