trenching for a future water/electrical

I will be doing some trenching this weekend. In california, can water and electrical be laid in the same trench? Different depths? I plan to trench, lay the pipe but let the professionals do the hook ups. This is in a field, definately nothing to hit or dig up.

I can't speak to CA rules, but in any event I would run the electrical circuit in some conduit and not just use ground rated conductors.
