Suggestions?

I have this intrusive weed, which is basically a flipping tree by now, growing behind my gas meter. I'm up for suggestions on how to remove it without blowing myself up?

I also have one, even larger, near my AC unit around the corner.

How come I keep cutting off the top parts, and they keep growing out? Don't the roots need the above ground portion to continue growth?

Cut out as much trunk and roots; apply Round Up or similar.

A tool like this is great for many things around the house. I would think you could cut that off at ground level or better with one.

I agree. The problem here is the gas lines. How do I go about ripping out a root system without messing that up?

no need, just do as bob said, cut as low as possible and paint the stump with round up or other weed killer, paint it a couple times

Key is not to spray with roundup or brush killer but to paint it on full strength the fresh cut stump. It will take awhile but you will kill the sucker eventually.

Obviously, keep an eye out for other such things trying to sprout near the foundation. It is usually squirrels or birds on the gutters dropping seeds.
