Stone selection for fountain?
Hello all. I working on a water feature for our backyard, and I saw in a book a pondless fountain where the grate was covered with flat stone instead of the usual rock/gravel. I was wondering if veneer would work as well. All of the info on stone veneer relates to wall applications, which is what they are made for, but would it work under constant water flow?

Thanks for any help!

They are designed to be light and durable. Most of them are cast concrete so unless you are recreating Niagra Falls (which I want you to post picture if you are), I don't see them wearing down to easily. Personally, I would only use veneer for large areas where I don't want to lift a lot of heavy stone and I need to save installation time.

Water From Rocks
I've built numerous pondless water features. I prefer to use larger flat stones to cover the grate/reservoir. I see now reason why using stone veneer wouldn't work. The key is to one, cover the reservoir hole and two, allow the water from the rock fountain find its way into the reservoir. If the veneer all looks pretty uniform then I'd suggest breaking it up by interspersing the flat veneer with some fist sized round rocks. Different sizes and shapes of rocks simply makes the fountains appearance more eye appealing
