Starve gophers by killing weeds?

My backyard is a lawn of weeds. It's like a buffet for gophers.

Anyone ever try killing off weeds and have gophers not come back?

Gophers do not eat weeds. They eat critters in the soil that live there whether the area is weeds or prime grass.

really?

I read they were omnivores and eat weed roots.

Even after I put fresh sod in my front yard, they were burrowing into my front yard for no apparent reason.
