Sprinkler (low water flow)

The previous owner of the house told me that he de-activated one of the sprinker zones, to make the grass in that zone wither so he can do something else with that place. Since I see that the zone is also suppose to cover other plants/trees, I went to the controller to turn it back on. It actually was programmed for that zone to be on, so at first could not figure it out Then I saw that for the solenoid (?) , one of the wires was actually cut. So re-connected the wire and the water now comes out but barely. Just trickling out the pipes (PVC). There isn’t any control I can see other than the handle at the top (photo attached), I played around with it, doesn’t change the flow. Is there anything else I can try? Is this related to the fact that those set of pipes hasn’t had any flow for many many years? Any remedy for this? Thank you.

Sounds like you have a broken pipe on that zone, I am sure if you leave it on long enough you will find the wet spot.

Maybe the valve is not opening all the way preventing waterflow?? May want to take it a part and look.

That would be my guess. If the zone has been turned off for any length of time debris probably accumulated in the valve, taking it apart and cleaning it will probably solve the problem. If it was a broken pipe you could see water accumulating someplace in the lawn.

The complete rebuild kits for those valves are not expensive and if I were you I would go ahead and rebuild them when you have them apart even if that is not your problem.

The solenoid on the one valve could be bad. Check your connections and take a tester to the controller of course.

See that little flat head screw on the housing of the valve? That is your manual override screw and if you open it and the valve works properly you know the solenoid is shot. It almost looks like you have some sort of adjustment screws on top of the solenoids I have never seen before.

Can you hear any water trying to flow when you open the valve?
