sprinkler head

There's an old, big sprinkler head that sticks up and I have to mow around. I won't ever be using irrigation in that part of the lawn.

How do I remove the sprinkler head? Do they twist off? I tried that but maybe needed more force.

thanks

usually they are threaded on - threads may be locked up. suggest to dig out around it so you can get to the feed line and get a better view and grip. if the feed line is still being used you will need to plug where it is removed.

Also don't forget to shut off the valve that goes to that particular zone/head.

I haven't used the irrigation since I moved in last yr and probably won't, cause the well doesn't work and I'm not paying for city water.

Ok, I'll dig around it and see what's what. What would I plug it with?

It's just annoying to have to mow around it every week.

thank you

Post a pic once you dig up the head. The "plug" will vary depending upon how the head was installed.

Some heads are installed with a flexible line. If it works out in your case, you can dig the hole deeper and bury the head/make it level.

One thing you might check. Many heads are installed flush with the ground then extend up with water pressure.

Yours wouldn't the first to get plugged with a little dirt and not slide down after it's done.

Just sayin'...you might check it.

that's an idea.

I thought it was pretty funny, with .30 of an acre and I've only seen 2 of these big things sticking up.

thanks
