If you have a little spare time, this is worth the read: http://www.prairielandherbs.com/plantain.htm Cliffnotes: It was brought here by europeans because they ate it like spinach, it is used for many many medicinal purposes etc.

Tastes a lot like spinich.

When I was little my best friends grandmother taught us about using plantain for sunburn and making a poltace for skinned knees and such. Didn't know it could be eaten or made into tea.
