slope needed around house?

I need to put more dirt around the house as it is way too low...especially under the front step.

How much to put down?

Can I use any type of dirt? Or should I put gravel or something else down?

Me know nothing!!!

I recommend 2-3" MINIMUM pitch in first 10 feet from house. Dirt is best, as stone, mulch, etc. all collect & hold water instead of shedding it, like dirt does.
