screening as a base for stairs.

Hey folks, I need some advice here.

I am working on my pavers patio and currently got to building the stairs.
I used HPB for the base for the patio, but the supplier also sold me 2 tons of screening to use on top of the HPB only to find out that I cannot use it since it will seep through.

Can I use the screening for my stairs as a base? if I compact every 4 inches or so? I have used however the first 6 inches so far are HPB, I was thinking to put a barrier to contain the screening, shovel in like 4 inches, wet it, compact it, build the second course of blocks, and do the same again till the stairs is done.

anyone has any advise of any experience with this type of installation?
I'd appreciate any advise or tips.

Thanks

I think you can use it for platform application if you need fill up some space (3 dimensional space) ... but not to the extend of the last 6 inches or so under the block... the screening you are talking about I think is kind of sand like stuff... limestone sand.... or somthing like this.... using it as thick base I would try to avoid because it still don't have good water drainage ... use HPB on the safe side to avoid hassle... if you end up couldn't use the 2 tons materials... you lost less than $100 bucks... this is better than you use it and the stairs sink... as we know HPB is no problem for setting up stairs and platforms and do not need compacting.... it will be very hard for you to compact stairs and platform....

I think your real issue is now you don't know where to use the limesone screening?.... I think it can be used as base of large steping concrete block those huge concrete block if you know what I meant...... don't you need some of those in the sides of your house.... ?.... then you can post it in Kijiji.ca for people to come to pickup for free....

it is not the money that I am concerned about, I just want to get rid of this huge pile of screening sitting in my back yard

But I think I found a solution for this yesterday. I had changed my patio plan, it is now smaller than I originaly intended it to be, so I will burying the screening under the grass in the areas that no pavers will be used. I will leave 4 inches for soil and sod, and I will also use it just like you said, by the side of house, compact it on a slope to make sure water drains away.. so I am good to go with this. It is only 60 $ really, if you think about how much I have spent so far, 60 $ sounds like nothing

Pictures coming soon ..!

Thanks for your reply.
