Reserved space for above ground pool free of weeds

How do you keep the reserved space for an above ground pool all winter so that you don't have tons of weeds in spring. Last year I put a blue tarpaulin but with all the snow, ice, rain and sun it just desintegrated. What does everybody else do?

Use a higher quality tarp or heavy duty plastic. From my little experience the blue tarps are very cheap and really don't last long. But I think the best would be to use plastic like the stuff pros use to cover materials stored outdoors or to create a temporary wall to contain dust and debris when renovating. Then hose it off at the beginning of the year, let it dry, and wrap it up for next winter.

I get where you're going with this but Round-up and chemical things like that are illegal in Montreal and you can get a hefty fine if found using it. That's why I was asking how to keep the ground free of weeds since I can't use that stuff and don't want to have to take them out one by one. Besides I wouldn't even want to use Round-up under a pool just in case it wouldn't be good for the pool material, I have that type that kind of inflates when filled up with water - not sure what they're called.

Actually if this pool is going to be around for a while you can make a more permanent solution with the landscaping fabric and some sand on top of that with a border around it to hold the sand. you might have aweed our two but it should last some time without too much extra maintenance

Even if we could spray banned chemicals, there is the little problem of 2 feet or so of snow and ice on top of the area.
Why not just set up the pool on top of any growth that may occur before you get a chance to get to the pool in the spring. Wont the pool itself smother any growth?
If you are determined to do something I've discovered that a light dusting of borax (20 mule team) laundry soap kills weeds without killing the grass. A heavier hand with the sprinkling and all growth is wiped out after a few days

If you used black plastic then the weeds will die after a few weeks due to lack of sun.

After several weeks and several rainstorms, Roundup sprayed on the weeds and the ground will have been diluted so as not to deteriorate any kind of pool materials.
