quick help needed regarding paver patio base
I'm currently installing a 22x16 paver patio with the help of a contractor. When he called the gravel place to get the stone for the base, they said that instead of doing gravel and then sand it wold be better to just put a 6" layer of heavily compacted torpedo sand. Is this really the right way to do it?
Im in WI so we have a bad frost/thaw cycle and its heavy clay ground.
Since the sand is being delivered tomorrow I need some suggestions quickly.
Thanks for the help.
I wouldn't but then again I have never heard of tropedo sand. I have installed many a sq. ft of paver, professionally. I have never used strictly sand. 7 inch base and a 1.5 inch sand. We use what is called 2NS sand for screed base.
Turns out the first gravel place was out of traffic bond so thats why they tried to sell my contractor on the sand idea.
Called up a second place and laying the whole thing with 1/4 traffic bond and no sand.
