putting sod on little rocks

i just had a stone wall put up and the installers chiseling at the stones left small little jagged rocks, there are so many that it would be impossible to pick up all the rocks. my idea is to use a tiller and turn the dirt and rocks put a small layer of dirt and then place some sod on top. would this idea of mine work or am i just wasting time and money???

It would work for a year anyway. Any freeze/thaw cycle will start working the rocks up through the sod so that after 1-3 years you will have the same rocks to start picking up. Farmers have gone through this for hundreds of years.

A rake will help in removing most of the rocks. If mortar was also left, this will kill the grass as it leaches into the soil. You could also scrape the surface, discard it and fill with amended top soil.
