Putting in new sod
I have an area I want to put new sod in.
It has some black top soil but has weeds growing on it.
The landscape guy I hired to do the new sod said to just roll the sod over the weeded soil.
I said don't you need to prep the area perhaps take out the weed by peeling off a thin layer and may be loosen up the soil a bit? May be even put in some weed and feed?
He said not necessary, just roll the sod over and 1-2-3 done.
I looked over several sites like this and all of them warned about just rolling it out without proper preping.
And why are you hiring this simple job out?
Proper prep is the key to any job
Gotta till and prep the soil. Whether for seed, hydroseed or sod you cannot skip this step or you are doomed to failure. Find another contractor.
Why is sod your choice, by the way. It may provide instant gratification but it is expensive and the hardest of turfgrass options to establish. At the end of the day, it is but a transplant product. Seed grown in your own soil is a better option.
