Procedure on evergreen removal

question, I have 4 junipers under a pin oak, wife doesn't like them plus they are pulling nutients from the pin oak, I've seen guys pull out trees and evergreen with a wench, and cat or pick up roots and all. is this the best way? or will the roots die off and turn into mulch anyway if I just cut em down?

I think the wench will complain loudly. Mine does when I ask her to do any heavy lifting.

And cats? They don't take direction very well, in my experience.

Some idea of how large the oak is, how large and what cultivar of the junipers might be would be helpful to the conversation. What is appropriate for small shrubs in the shadow of a large tree is totally inappropriate for large shrubs in the shadow of a small tree.

Post a picture.
