Both trees appear to be dangerously close to the house and in drastic need of a fairly substantial trimming and pruning. I cannot believe anybody would plant trees that close although many do plant young trees too close. They were probably sapplings somebody was going to deal with "next year" 15 years ago or whatever.

Their roots must certainly threaten the foundation and plumbing infrastructure. If lighning hits one of the branches over the roof, kiss it goodbye. The leaves must clog gutters. If bugs were to get to them they could easily get to your wood framing too. And the list goes on. And your insurance might balk at covering damage given they are obviously in dangerous proximity.

They look to be reasonably healthy so that is good news as removing trees and grinding stumps that size is not a casual nor an inexpensive task if you have to pay for removal. Should you get rid of them as soon as you can? I would say yes. Do you have to do it tomorrow? Hard to say and it is really up to you.

With those trees out of the way you can get on with planting nice replacements and at a safe distance from the house. You would not want new plantings in the way of the tree crews.

i got a quote of $500 to cut down tree and grind the stump from a local company. I think i will have it cut down and not have to worry about what may happen in the future. the other tree is on my neighbors side. it is about 15 feet from my house

thanks

That sounds pretty good to me especially if they are going to haul it away (unless you want to chop it up for firewood). If you have the money, it will be worth the piece of mind. I hate having to cut down healthy trees but this one is clearly in the wrong place so you have no option.
