pond & backyard retreat.

We did an entirely DIY backyard retreat.
We love our backyard and made it as cozy as
we could. The pond we put in in 1997, it's
shaped like an irregular shaped horseshoe,
.
it's a gravity fed system with a Bottom drain,
there is also a biological pond located 18 feet
away that helps keep the main pond sparkling clear.
The koi are between 15 and 17 years old and average
about 24 inches long, except for some of the offspring.

The filter system is three Rubbermaid tubs, daisy chained
together.

the pond deck was built in 1998 ... it's a lower pond deck

and an upper pond deck (where the BBQ is located) is level with our
existing deck. The big window in the family room
we added about 8 years ago, bumping it out 2 1/2 feet x 10 foot
long...the window was stArted on July 2nd and findings
just before Christmas that year...it's was a huge DIY undertaking,
more involved than we thought.
Here some pics to get you started, I also took some videos
early this morning.
happy 4th of July and enjoy! Splash!

how do I load more than one pic in a post?

this shows the 10 foot box window we installed.
We originally were going to do a bay like we did in
our kitchen, then I thought of this...our family room went
from 12 foot wide to 14 1/2 feet wide.

the side windows catch a great cross ventilation
breeze...
thanks for looking.

That's gorgeous!

If I had that- I'd be outside on the deck all evening- must be very relaxing

thanks mike, yes the winter over, they all go down deep 3 1/2 feet
and practically hibernate.
Koi are extremely tame and friendly and hand feed...
watch this.
I took this June 28th.
