Where are you located? What is your budget? Is sod out of the question?

I am in central Texas.. The cheaper the better.. If i have to use sod then the project will take longer than i had hoped but it is not out of the question.

A sod cutter and sod will be the quickest (but probably most expensive). Otherwise, I'd go around and pull (by hand) the weeds. Dethatch and overseed. Be careful what you put down for fertilizer on new seed. Pre emergent stops weeds from germinating but also keeps seeds from doing the same. It really depends on how much time/money you want to put in.
