painting gutters ?

for the gutter ( or more properly, eavestrough (sp?) ) people ...

I need to fix up some sections of downspouts here and there. Previous owner must have tossed to old sections out as I cannot find them. I'm not sure what a gutter contractor would charge, but would I be ok to just buy the sections of downspout materials I need from a home imporvement center and get some paint matched? I've got no problems doing any of the install, just feeling out cost analysis for gutter guy to come and repair vs getting some new pieces and primer and paint and doing it myself.

pity self-reply.

answered my own question ..went to a home inprovement yard nearby and they had custom orderable colors. much easier than painting and gutter repair is fairly easy for most anyone who can operate a hacksaw, tin snips and drill.

well I'm only doing a few downspouts ... if I was to do a whole house, it would be cheaper than putting a whole custom ordered system in. Plus i have no way to do seamless. And I wouldn't want to shuffle a ladder all the way around our 2 story house or tyr and put them up from on the roof.

your job is safe for now.

I hear that bbo, Been hanging gutter down here in scorching heat of So. Fl. on 2 or 3 story houses from off the roof for way too long. Even on a 7/12 pitch which can be a lil scary. I prefer a nice 5/12 where we can take a nap on the edge and not fall off. Hope all your spouts came out good.

Hmm, I wonder if any of my local home improvement yard have these custom orderable colours. I need a eavestrough about 4 feet long in a grey colour.

Was this one of the big Box stores??

From my own exp. I know H.D. only carries White gutter, You can call any local Gutter Co. and ask for a "Drop Off" they will cut the piece to size and also provide the spikes and ferrulles, or Hidden hangers whatever your using to attach it, and the endcaps, our avg. price for this is $1.50 ft. unless they say they have a min. of $100.00 or something.

geez, I never replied to this.

I got mine from Menards. Its on the same order of Home Depot or Lowes for those that don't have a Menards. They are a lower cost than Home depot, and generally have more items.

I'm only comparing the home depot and the menards nearest me. ymmv

A compound Mitre saw will cut off down spouts and gutter far faster and straighter than any hack saw.

hacksaw is cheaper and more portable.

but if you have the compound mitre saw, definitively use it.

I only did a few downspouts ... had no need to drag out power tools.
